2. Santa's Village in Rovaniemi: How did it all start?


In 1950, Eleanor Roosevelt visited Rovaniemi and asked to be shown around the Arctic Circle. Soon after, officials built a hut eight kilometres north of Rovaniemi, which still stands today.


The delightful village became known as Father Christmas' Village, which became one of the most popular attractions in Lapland.


It includes over 50 shops and restaurants. Leisure activities such as husky or reindeer sleigh rides, snowmobile tours and ice and snow building tours can be booked through the Scandinavian Travel Group.

3. Where is Santa's hometown?


Santa's home is located on the mysterious Mount Korvatunturi ('Ear Sopa') in Finnish Lapland. As the exact location of the house is a mystery to which few are privy, Santa decided to open an office in Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland, in 1985. Rovaniemi received the status of Father Christmas' official hometown in 2010.



4. How to get to Father Christmas in Rovaniemi?


Father Christmas Village is open daily all year round, even during the winter. It's very easy to get to, by taking local bus number 8 or the Santa Claus Bus which departs from downtown Rovaniemi every hour. You can also take a taxi, car or walk there if you prefer.
